The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid is available in three trim levels; SE, SEL and Limited it achieves its impressive fuel economy through an advanced drivetrain that pairs a 60-horsepower electric motor to a 1.6L 4-cylinder conventional gasoline engine. Combined, they make 139 horsepower, which is then sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed Ecoshift transmission. While most other hybrids use a continuously variable transmission for maximum efficiency, Hyundai hits their mileage target and delivers a more conventional driving feel by employing a sports-car style dual-clutch "automated" manual. Range on the plug-in hybrid will be around 29 miles, after which the gasoline engine kicks in to recharge the batteries and provides a combined range of 630 miles. The Plug-in Hybrid base SE trim comes well-equipped with 16-inch wheels, active grille shutters, heated side mirrors, automatic projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, dual-zone temperature control, heated front seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, 8-inch display audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rearview camera and keyless entry. The SEL trim builds on the standard equipment with integrated turn signals in the side mirrors, LED headlights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and wireless device charging. Stepping up to the top-of-the-line Limited trim adds a power sunroof, power folding side mirrors, leather seats, driver seat memory, ambient lighting, a navigation system, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and an 8-speaker sounds system. Many safety features come standard on the Ioniq including electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, traction control, brake assist, and a suite of airbags. Standard across the lineup you'll find an active lane departure system, forward collision mitigation, a pedestrian detection system and a driver attention alert, the SEL trim adds a blind spot warning system, and rear collision warning while the Limited trim also gets a traffic sign information system and front and rear parking sensors.
